Content of CDC Car Simulator Lessons
The 3 compulsory CDC Car Simulator Lessons for class 3/3A costs $26.54 each after GST, irregardless of time. You are only required to bring you Identification Card for the sessions. There is no dress code, but i do suggest that you wear covered shoes. The simulator room is air-conditioned, but of a tolerable temperature.
You can only attend CDC Car Simulator Lessons after 5 practical car lessons. For car learner with private instructor, your private instructor need to update the system after 5 practical car lessons are completed so that you can book your CDC Car Simulator Lessons. You can use your CDC account(Account number starting with P) that you opened with CDC for your theory tests (BTT and FTT).
All the Car simulator machine can be set to auto or manual. The workers there are very friendly, so do not worry if it’s your first time there. There are 6 cars around the simulator room, one of which will be assigned to you. Similar to a car, you will have to press on the brakes to start the engine, then press a button on your left to let go of the handbrake. Fret not, you will be able to adjust the seat upwards/downwards, forward/backwards.
You will be seated facing 3 screens- one in front of you and the other two on both your sides, with the mirrors at the corner of the side screens. In the beginning of your first try, you will be given about 5 minutes to warm up to the car. The roads are mainly those at Clementi, near Ngee Ann Polytechnic and SIM/SUSS, Stevens and certain high-speed expressways. You will need to pay very close attention to the instructions given to turn and the speed limit given because there are other simulator cars around you as well, hence the instructions may get confusing.
There are various possible accident scenarios such as (to name a few):
- Turning left to enter a filter lane, but a cyclist is on your left blindspot
- Boxes on a truck falling off
- Car not giving way from minor lane entering major lane
- Car ahead of you stopping without warning (no signal)
In the event that you find yourself in an accident, the simulator will play back the moments before your accident, and provide tips on how to avoid the situation. You will not be continuing from the accident site.
It is mandatory to have one slot gap in between each simulator session because you may experience some nauseousness. While there is no pass/fail for the simulator sessions, it is best to take it seriously since the scenarios do happen in real life more often than not and this simulations can assist to better prepare you for the everyday roads.
Getting Waiver for Simulator Lessons
If you are experience great discomfort during your first CDC Car simulator Lesson, you can get a doctor to certify that you are not suitable and you will not need to attend the next 2 simulator lessons. This might be a good thing as you can book tp without waiting for the completion of remaining 2 simulator lessons.
Getting Earlier Time for Lessons
To get earlier time slot for CDC Car simulator lessons, you can keep checking for the slot frequently. For school car learner, this method is likely to yield success for getting earlier time slot. However, private car learner might not have the similar success rate due to lesser cancellation of Car simulator lessons. Please also note that school car learner Car simulator lesson cannot be swapped with Private car simulator lessons as both are on different platform.
Furthermore, if you have booked 3 simulator lessons, you have to cancel 1 lesson before you can book the earlier. Thus, the worst case scenario is that someone took the earlier slot while you are cancelling and the slot you cancelled got taken also. Please do take note of this.
